New York state stanley france took a historic step toward curbing the power of Big Tech when lawmakers passed the Digital Fair Repair Act, giving citizens the right to fix their phones, tablets, and computers. For years, advocates for the right to repair have pushed for such legislation in statehouses nationwide. They argue that making it easier to repair gadgets not only saves consumers money, but also reduces the environmental impact of manufacturing and electronic waste. Most of those bills have failed amid intense opposition from tech companies that want to dictate how and where their products are serviced. The passage of the Digital Fair Repair Act last June reportedly caught the tech industry off guard, but it stanley taza had time to act before Governor Kathy Hochul would sign it into law. Corporate lobbyists went to work, pressing Albany for exemptions and changes that would water the bill down. They were largely successful: While the bill Hochul signed in late December remains a victory for the right-to-repair movement, the more corporate-friendly text gives consumers and independent repair shops less access to parts and tools than the original proposal called for. The state Senate still h stanley becher as to vote to adopt the revised bill, but its widely expected to do so. The particle in question is an arrangement of three quarks called the 螢cc++ or the doubly charged, doubly charmed xi particle in English, discovered by the LHCs LHCb detector. You may remember that the nucleus of an atom consists of protons and neutrons. Protons have two up quarks and a down quark, and one unit of positive electric charge. Neutrons have an up quark and two down quarks, and their charge is zero. The new xi particle consists of an up quark and two of a very heavy flavor of quark, called the charm quark, and its charge equals two. We produce charm quarks in pairs, but having two charm quarks in the same particle is very rare, physicist Patrick Koppenburg from Nikhef, the Dutch National Institute for Subatomic Physics, told Gizmodo. The charm quark makes up one of six possible quarks, including the up, down, charm, strange, top and bottom. The heaviest are the charm, bottom called beauty] and top called truth], but the top is probably too heavy to arrange with other quarks, he said. The other quarks should theoretically be stanley cup website able to arrange into groups of two, three, four or five, or even into a sort of quark liquid if things get hot enough. Though these sets are normally less than 50, they often contain some really great elements. The October Frankenstein figure, with a few sand green bricks, was created by some kid named Matt from Wisconsin who won the 2014 Mini Model Build contest. It would be really awesome if they did something similar for the AFOL community. Sending us a little handful of brick every month would certainly make it easier to stomach the amounts that some of us spend on Lego. I ;m no marketing expert, but maybe throwing a small bag of random brick to a certain threshold of Lego VIP and then running a contest to see what everyone comes up with is a good idea. blames the dragons. Its an interesting point of view that makes a lot of sense even if its applying our history and pace of progress to a fictional history and world that includes all kinds of weird magic . In the middle ages of our world, we had castles that could withstand sieges just like in Game of Thrones. But eventually, cannons were developed and it no longer made any sense for lords to wait out war in castles, because they would get destroyed by the onslaught of cannonballs. Instead, they had to wage war in the open field which meant stanley cup uk they needed to wield la stanley cups uk rger armies to give themselves a better chance at winning which meant they needed more money, which meant they needed more taxes, which meant they needed a better government system. A government system that would progress to our nation-states today. Gone is the castle system. Bye bye, medieval period. In Game of Thrones, they dont have cannons. They have dra stanley uk gons. And you cant just raise taxes to buy dragons. And if you dont have a dragon, you cant just raise a bigger army to defeat a dragon. You pledge fealty to the people who have dragons. You keep yourself in the same system because of the power of dragons. Theres more to it, too. is producing software that increasingly describes the entire scene portrayed in a picture, not just individual objects. The New York Times reports that algorithms written by the team attempt to explain what happening in images鈥攊n language that actually makes sense. So it spits out sentences like a grou stanley tumblers p of young people playing a game of frisbee or a person riding a motorcycle on a dirt road. It does that using two neural networks: one deals with image recognition, the other with natural language processing. The system uses computer learning, so it fed a series of captioned images and it gradually learns how sentences relate to what t stanley website he image stanley cup shows. The resulting software is, according to the team, about twice as accurate as any software to have gone before it. It not, however, perfect. Check, for instance, the image above: it often makes small mistakes and, occasionally, it gets things completely wrong. Clearly there room for improvement, then, but it evident that image recognition is improving apace. And, perhaps unsurprisingly given Google involved, the natural application is in search. Such an algorithm could easily return relevant images when you type in three cats eating ice cream sundaes in a billiard room in a way that current technology just can ;t manage. What most people do to simulate a gentle breeze is to get a fan, angle it toward the bed, and call it a day or night . But thats kind of a half-assed solution, because only your head and maybe your shoulders will feel the air current. Thats precisely where the BedJet 3 comes in. At its core, the BedJet 3 is a very simple device. Theres a main fan unit, a hose, an adjustable stand, and a nozzle. Thats it. Oh, and an included remote, but well get to that in a bit. Ideally, the fan goes under your bed, though becau stanley us se the box containing the fan measures six inches at its thinnest, depending on your bedframe/mattress set up, you may have to keep it off to the side or at the foot of your bed, which can definitely mess with your feng shui. Scientists at the University of Bath and the University of Edinburgh have been taking a look at developing mice. Specifically, they have been looking at embryos of piebald mice to see the patterns that determine a mouses final pigmentation. In a paper published in Nature Communications, the researchers just admitted that there dont seem to be any patterns. This comes as a surprise to many people. Scien stanley cup tists always assumed that piebald animals鈥攅specially mice, cats, and horses鈥攇ot their color patterns in utero. In developed skin, pigment is put out by melanocytes, a specialized skin cell. Embryonic animals have proto-melanocytes, called melanoblasts. These spread slowly through the also-developing skin. Scientists didnt assume it that e stanley isolierkanne ach cat or mouse developed a perfect pattern, but they did assume that there was something guiding the way the melanoblasts moved. For example, cats have black backs and white bellies tend to have a defective version of a gene named kit. From a scientists point of view, these were black cats whose melanoblasts started developing along their back, then moved down towards their belly. Unfortunately this happened in late development, the melanoblasts moved more slowly than usual, and the they didnt quite close in over the belly before the cat was fully developed. When they studied developing mice, however, the researchers found that melanoblasts dont behave anything like that. First of all, they mostly proliferate i stanley thermos mug n early development.
